About Me

Taking the Stress Out of Your Move

When my husband found a new job several provinces away, I knew that we needed to move as soon as possible. I rushed to find boxes, tape, and a moving truck that I could rent myself. In the excitement and rushed state of the move, I ended up breaking a computer, several antique dishes, three vases, and a recliner. The move ended up costing me several hundred extra dollars on replacement items. When my small family needed to move again, I did my research. I found out how to pack correctly and I also learned how to use pods, storage spaces, and professional movers to my advantage. Not only was this move less stressful, but it was far cheaper. Learn from my research to make sure your move is stress free. You will find tips on my blog whether you are moving a household or relocating to a dorm room.

3 Movies You Can Get Moving Tips From

by Deann Wade

Moving to a new home is exciting, but it can easily become overwhelming for you, and everyone that is involved. This is especially true if you have lived in your home for a long time, and have a large family. To make things a little easier, take time to watch the movies below. They can teach you some things to make your move go a little smoother.

Toy Story

If you have children in your home, they undoubtedly have many toys, and always have a few that are their favourites. You do not want to reach your destination and not have your child's loving teddy. Andy almost moved to his new home without Buzz and Woody.

To keep this from happening, make sure you have all of the storage supplies that you need before you start packing. One of the most important things is the moving boxes.

Not all moving boxes are the same. Some use single wall or double wall corrugated cardboard. Of course, double is much sturdier than single. When looking at boxes, look at the ECT (Edge Crush Test) rating that is on one of the flaps.

The higher this number is, the stronger your box will be. For example, an ECT rating of 32 will hold up to 40 pounds, and an ECT rating of 48 will hold up to 80 pounds. You should not use any box that has an ECT rating that is under 22.

Indiana Jones

If you have seen the Indiana Jones series, you know they did not have enough room in the Ark of the Covenant for all of their things. This ends up causing them a lot of trouble, and you do not want this to happen to you.

If you find yourself in the same situation, and do not have room for all of your important things, such as family heirlooms, you should put them in storage to keep them safe until you can get them moved.

Are We There Yet?

In the movie Are We There Yet, Suzanne finds herself in a jam and needs someone to bring her kids to meet her in Vancouver. Nick offers to bring them, and soon finds out it was a huge mistake. What happens during the road trip is something no parent wants. If you are moving a long distance and traveling by car, you should make sure you are ready to keep your children entertained.

One great game that is fun to play is "I Spy," which is where children find different things that you call out as you are driving down the road.

To make this game a little different, print out different small images online, such as different restaurant signs, trees, certain colored cars, etc., and cut them into small squares. Glue the squares onto a blank sheet of paper, and then put the sheets into a plastic sheet protector. Give your children some dry erase markers, and have them mark off each item as they find them.

Following these tips can help make your move a success whether you are moving across town or to another country.
